On My Heart Imprint Your Image
Part of our Lenten learning here at the Olson homestead has been to learn the awesome hymn "On My Heart Imprint Your Image." I realized after old-school teaching--sitting at the piano and playing through it numerous times--that the CPH edition of My First Hymnal includes it, too. The boys picked it up in two days and now sing it around the house (building with Duplos? Running amok? Both great times to sing it!). I've appreciated savoring the words and really thinking about Christ crucified being stamped (no smears, either!) on our hearts. May you always cherish His mark on you in your baptism as you work, play, run amok, or otherwise.
On my heart imprint Your image
Blessed Jesus, King of grace,
That life's riches, cares, and pleasures
Never may Your work erase.
Let the clear inscription be:
Jesus, crucified for me.
Is my life, my hope's foundation
And my glory and salvation.

We memorized this the first year my husband and I were married--brings back memories of a different era. We should teach it to our kids (next year maybe..so many to memorize, so little time.)
I'm with you, Katy! I picked this one because I like it and it's not too long. Not the best reasons, but it's a start. Maybe next year: some awesome 15 verse Gerhardt hymn. :)
